Our theme for the conference is EmPOWERment through connection, inclusion and education.
The word EmPOWERment is purposely semi-capitalised and italicised to emphasise the word power which in this case refers to everyone attending the conference who will have the power to make positive change. Our theme is assembled starting with the ultimate goal which is to empower, this being our students, parents, educators and other members of the SPEVI community and this is achieved through connection where the community gathers in person or online to exchange ideas, network and learn together, inclusion which is a positive for everyone and education which is what SPEVI aspires to, education for all with vision impairment and additional disabilities. This will all be expanded upon through the various activities we plan to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Braille and the 70th year of SPEVI's first iteration.
This conference will be hybrid, meaning delegates can attend in person or online with dynamic programs planned for both platforms. If you do choose to attend our face to face event, you will travel to the beautiful capital of Australia's sunshine state, Brisbane, Queensland and will learn, network, socialise and have fun inside an equally beautiful venue, the University of Southern Queensland city campus, right in the heart of bustling and exciting Brisbane!
Our committee is currently putting together an exciting program of events including excursions, unforgettable and powerful keynote speakers. Keep an eye on this page as the conference program evolves, together with our Email lists and social media. We will use the hash tag #SPEVI2025 in our communication.
The Call for Abstracts will go out soon, where we will invite you to submit abstracts to build upon what is going to be a fantastic conference; watch this space for more details coming soon!
